The President of the Lao PDR H.E. Mr Choummaly Sayasone received a courtesy visit from High Level delegates of the 2010 Round Table Meeting. About 300 delegates from 38 countries, 26 organisations and 18 international non-government organisations attended this year's meeting. Read the full article

The Government of Lao PDR and Development Partners signed the MDG Compact for the Lao PDR, including a new MDG 9 on cluster munitions at the Round Table Meeting on 20 October. The meeting also saw Development Partners back the Government's new five-year plan for the development of the Lao PDR. Read the full article

The Prime Minister of the Lao PDR unveiled the Government of the Lao PDR's new National Social Economic Development Plan during the opening ceremony of the Round Table Meeting, aiming to achieve a target of eight percent economic growth annually for the next five years, and reducing poverty from the present level of 26 percent to 15 percent by 2015. Lao PDR's application for funding from the Fast Track Initiative Catalytic Fund Committee was approved during the CFC Spring Meeting in Washington D.C. on 7 May 2010, resulting in a successful $30 million bid to improve educational facilities in Lao. Read the FTI Press Release for more information.
